Release Date.
Published by weirdkidinabox on March 15th, 2008
There are generally a lot of estimated dates floating around for games nowadays so I thought I may chip in with one I found tonight- please note that this is only a pre-order date given and probably shouldn’t be believed. I was flicking through the current play.com catalogue- not sure when it arrived at my humble abode but I cast my eyes across Fable 2, available for pre-order with a release date set for 30/5/08 and an age rating of 16+
That is, 30th of May this year. Thats the closest date I have heard of so far and really isn’t too far off at all but is probably far too close to be realistic.
I also took the liberty of checking onsite at play.com and it appears to give the same release date. Heres the link: Play.com Fable 2 Page
Edit: Since the posting of this article they have changed the date to 12/12/2008

I never trust these place marker dates at all and especially one thats so soon when they are going to be revealing more info at the conferences in June and July.

Probably just a placeholder. If the release date had been announced then we’d definitely know.

I know, the date seems far too close to be realistic- I still dont get why some sites insist on putting up dates for release if they dont even have a clue as to why. If the date was correct I would expect it to have been announced at GDC tbh. None the less, I felt it was news worthy anyway.

When Lionhead announces the release date THEN its official. There are too many place with release dates going back to Jan 1 2007.

Very true i doubt that this date is correct since it is far too close, many of these dates and invented and “made-up.” This date hasn’t even been posted on any other site. For example Xbox.com still has TBD on the release date of Fable 2.

Albion, dude, I never said it was official- Im just posting up speculation by sites that are stocking the game when it is eventually released. My bet is it will be out in November sometime. It seems to be the most reasonable date for release.

Amazon.com is posting the pre-order for October 30, 2008 for Fable 2 and usually they keep up on things like this. I will wait to hear from Lionhead Studios before I know for sure. 6 weeks before the release they will be releasing a few games on Xbox Live Arcade that will correlate to Fable 2 and you will be able to keep all the gold you win on those games and transfer it to your new Fable 2 game once you buy it. So in theory you could end up with millions in gold before the game even comes out.

Nope, they changed it to 12/12/08
But why is this NEWS?! Why bother writing about all these marketing stunts from play.com, Amazon and alike? These online stores are just pulling in clients for reservations. They predict a release date so YOU put down a pre-order at THEIR store.

Fable has been my fave game ever since……. I dont know anything. On the xbox three sixty I heard that u get to have a dog, man a dog and u cant control it the only thing u can do with it is play with it and make attack people.

Bas, I posted it as news because its still outside speculation as to a release date. Nowhere in my article did I say it was definitive or confirmed. It was speculation by a site which I forwarded on because I felt that it was still relevant to Fable 2, which it was. Its speculation. You want to whine about this, then whine about everybody else who speculates at features and everything else.

Here in Canada, future shop has been giving a release date somewhere between August 30 and Sept.30 for the last 6 mo.
If the pub games come out approx. 6 weeks before the release date of fable 2, I will be looking for the release date of the pub games to determine the date for fable 2. Any news on when the pub games will be available?

You know,I really hate Peter Molineux!

No, he’s okay, he just needs to worry about his marketing. It’s good to build up a game and have a large fan base ready to buy at the drop of a hat, but build up for too long (how many years has it been now?) and people may loose interest.

The only problem with PM is that sometimes he says too much and gets over enthusiastic about the games ad concepts he is developing. Guess its a sign that he loves what he is doing which is a good thing. He just needs to tone things done a bit sometimes.

More estimation then actual evidence, i believe that Fable 2 probebly will not be out until, at most, around October. If you really believe that Mr. M really can get his top notch team of junk eaters to work tiressly because from what i have read about the game, it is astounding that he can come up with that much stuff in one game! Though he created the background of the whole thing he needs to find any glitches, and for all our sake, not spout out like a gibbering baboon, “This will be the greatest RPG ever created.” It great that he is enthusiastic because that can create moral but to much and we will basicly lose support and cave in.

I as I am sure everyone here can agree with me on this the Albion of Fable 2 will be huge. If you think about it, has there ever been a game where every single little chose you make has lasting effects across the span of 50 years in a world as big as or bigger than Oblivion’s with possibly just as much to do? If you take all that into account how many thousands of different story lines does that make? Fable 2 will take a huge amount of imagination to figure out what will be in the game, a huge amount of programing and design work just to put it all together, a huge amount of test gaming to find all the bugs with story line, a huge amount of reprograming to fix all the bugs, a huge amount of retesting to find the bugs that where missed, a huge amount reprograming to fix the missed bugs, and finale a huge amount of retesting to make sure all the bugs are gone. I mean come on thats a lot of work, and there making pub games on xbox live to setup all the excitement for people who aren’t keeping close tabs on the games development, and the commercials, internet ads, and setting up the shipments to stores with everything thats supposedly going into this game I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out the middle of next year though I really hope it doesn’t.

i really didnt think the game woould be rated 16+!!! if it includes half as much as the first game does, its going to be a great game. im not asking to have a lot of over rated sex and gore, but realisticly, i kinda enjoyed the lifelike choices. i am soooo psyched out to get this game!!!!
