Forum Statistics Box Disabled Temporarily

Just thought I’d make a quick post before the angry questions start flooding in! Fortunately, for those of you whom might be visiting ProjectEgo.net for the first time, you won’t need to worry about this as you probably won’t have a clue what I’m talking about… Anywho, the ‘Cyb Advanced Forum Statistics’ modification block has been temporarily removed.

The reason for this is because I suspect that this modification might be a bit too resource hungry for my liking. You see, I’m a stickler for server optimization and I want to know that the dedicated server that ProjectEgo.net resides on is going to be running at a nice leisurely pace. When we get huge influxes of traffic — and we frequently do — then unoptimized PHP scripts that require a billion database queries can bring a server to its knees.

You will however be pleased to learn that our dedicated server has so far been able to easily cope with everything that has been thrown at it. The only thing that concerns me is if one of our forum threads made it to the front page of an insanely busy website such as Digg and, with Digg being as popular as it is, we’d be getting anywhere up to an extra few hundred thousand additional page views alone.

To summarize: The forum statistics block has been temporarily disabled while I investigate further. Bear with me!
