Fable - Mayor’s Invitation Quest
Once you have completed the main ‘Fight In The Arena’ quest during the main story mode of Fable, you will be invited to Bowerstone North by the Mayor, Lady Gray. From here on you are given the choice of following two optional side quests; one will revolve around doing favours for Lady Gray and eventually being given the opportunity to marry her, whereas the second allows you to investigate her background and learn a dark secret.

This section below will cover the quest that will allow you to marry her.

Upon speaking with Lady Gray she informs you that she could never consider a man as a potential husband who could not shower her with gifts, so what you want to do is head to the store in this area and purchase a single black rose. Not content with the lovely flower you bought her, she insists she couldn’t possibly marry into poverty, meaning you will need to buy a house. Fortunately it can be anywhere in Albion - she’s not fussy - and even if you live in a dog kennel she won’t seem to mind.

Now her errands become a little more complex; she informs you that her necklace is missing and it’s your job to find it. Speak to everyone in Bowerstone that shows up as green on your objective marker and they will divulge some information regarding the whereabouts of Lady Gray’s necklace. Sooner or later you will discover that it is currently residing somewhere in Oakvale so that’s where we’re off to next; teleport to the area and we’ll go from there.

Head to the Memorial Garden and you will be able to overhear a pair of fellows talking about it, as well as the location. Go towards the dock at the southern portion of the map, and you will see two overturned canoes on the beach, one in mint condition and the other… not quite in mint condition. Stand in between them and use begin digging with your spade, and provided you found the correct spot you should end up with Lady Gray’s necklace. Head back to the Bowerstone and once again speak with Lady Gray.

You will find that Lady Gray claims she has another man competing for her heart as well, and it just so happens to be your good friend Thunder. Guess that means the two of you will have to fight for her love; may the best man win! Head to the Bowerstone jail - a furious looking Thunder will be waiting just across the bridge from there (he’ll be absolutely fuming if you killed his sister, Whisper, as well). He will demand you to meet with him on Headsman’s Hill in order to battle to the death. Since we’re game for a fight, let’s do as he asks.

Once you reach Headsman’s Hill, a short cutscene will play then you will be forced to fight with Thunder. You can use this Thunder boss guide to tell you how to defeat him if you wish.

Assuming you have won the battle, Thunder will admit defeat and walk away with his head hanging in shame, allowing you to return to Bowerstone and claim your prize - a brand new wife, Lady Gray! You will be rewarded 15,000 gold as well as access to the mansion. Well done!

I had the same problem as Sean. You have to do the quest where you escort the trader first, then enter and exit the Jail zone a couple times. At least that’s how I did it.

You can actually skip that quest if you want to without fighting Thunder, instead of heading over to talk to Lady grey for the first time, take the left path and talk to the man in the cell. it will take just as much time, you dont get any dowry but you yourself become mayor. Also you dont get access to the demon door outside the grey house, so i do not suggest this route
